The Wisdom of God

On Sunday morning, 8 July 2018, at our Celebration Service, Pastor Donald Thys ministered on the importance of applying the wisdom of God in our lives every day. See the notes below:

The Wisdom of God

James 1:5-9

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:”

  • Many times the flesh wants to come out and jump ahead.
  • We must ask for God’s wisdom because we can’t do anything without the wisdom of God.
  • Many times we want to try to do things on our own first.
  • The wisdom of God is freely given unto those who ask.
  • The battle is not ours, it is the Lord’s.
  • God is our source. We need the wisdom of God.
  • When we fight the battles we end up in court.
  • The wisdom of God is applying the knowledge of God to the situation and getting the best possible outcome.
  • The wisdom of God will make your money work for you.
  • The wisdom of God helps us to know the secrets of God.
  • Open the window of blessings by being obedient.
  • The wisdom of God helps us to do the ethical and right thing.
  • The wisdom of God allows us to unlock everything we struggle with.
  • We need God’s daily wisdom in all areas of our lives.
  • God gives His wisdom generously.
  • When we fight the battle we will sin. God doesn’t want us to fight the battle.
  • If we get wisdom we will get understanding.
  • God gives wisdom through asking in prayer.
  • We glorify God when we operate in His wisdom. When we glorify God we make Him happy.
  • We must operate with integrity and honesty.
  • We can’t do anything without the wisdom of God.
  • God wants to give us what we need through His wisdom and understanding.
  • We must operate with integrity and honesty.

1 Kings 3:5-11

In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee. And Solomon said, Thou hast shewed unto thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day.

And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.

11 And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;”

  • As a young king, Solomon, didn’t know what do to do and how to manage the kingdom. He asked God for wisdom and through the wisdom of God He became the wealthiest man.
  • We don’t have to ask for riches and honour. We should ask for God’s wisdom, for with wisdom comes riches and honour.

Proverbs 4:7

Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”

Proverbs 2:4-5

If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.”

  • Pray for God’s wisdom in all spheres of your life.
  • We must please God. We please God by asking for His wisdom.

Proverbs 4:12

12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.”
